3D Printed Dental Crowns With CEREC Technology

Here at Advanced Dental Professionals in Rapid City, dental crowns are integral to many dental restoration treatments we perform. Including implants, root canals, or simply covering and strengthening a tooth damaged by trauma or decay. Dental crowns restore your smile, preserve the integrity of your mouth’s structure, and help you maintain excellent oral health.

Replace Your Crown In Record Time

With traditional crowns, treatment is completed in multiple visits. During the first visit, your dentist takes a tooth impression and sends it to a dental lab to make the crown. The patient wears a temporary crown for a couple of weeks while waiting for the new restoration. The patient returns for a second visit to have their permanent crown put in place.

Dental crowns with CEREC, on the other hand, are completed in one visit. The CEREC technology utilizes an infrared camera that takes 3D images of your damaged tooth and sends those images directly to our CEREC machine. Your crown is milled inside the machine in our office, not in a dental laboratory. This incredible technology allows us to complete your procedure on the same day.

Gone are the days of returning to see if your new crown fits. Your teeth can be back to normal on the same day. Advanced Dental Professionals in Rapid City keeps up with state-of-the-art dental treatments by continuously educating ourselves. These new procedures help our patients feel confident they get the best care possible.

CEREC Same Day Crowns and Onlays

We can build a custom-fit, long-lasting porcelain crown that matches your natural teeth in less than a day. No repeat visits, and no unsightly temporary metal crown. Today’s technology is impacting cosmetic dentistry in so many ways. CEREC allows you to restore damaged teeth with natural-colored ceramic in one visit, saving you time and inconvenience.

CEREC is an acronym for Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics. It uses CAD/CAM technology, incorporating a camera, computer, and milling machine into one instrument.

Drs. Studer and Lemmon and their friendly dental team in Rapid City use a special intra-oral camera to take accurate pictures of the damaged tooth. The digital impression is then transferred and displayed on a computer monitor.

We use Computer Aided Design (CAD) technology to design the restoration. Computer Aided Manufacturing (CAM) takes over and automatically creates the restoration while you wait. Finally, we bond the new restoration to the surface of the old tooth in one single visit.

What Does This Mean for You?

Dental crowns with CEREC restoration means no more silver fillings or porcelain fused to metal crowns discoloring your smile. The crown is natural-looking, compatible with your soft tissue, and anti-abrasive and plaque-resistant.

There is no need for temporary traditional dental crowns or to take gooey impressions that need to be sent to a laboratory. CEREC has over 20 years of clinical research and documentation to support the technology. The restorations have been proven precise, safe, and effective.

What Should I Expect From the CEREC Process?

So how does this process work, you ask? Read below to learn more about what to expect from the dental crown with CEREC process.

Exam and Preparation

Before you get started, Drs. Studer and Lemmon will determine if dental crowns with CEREC suits you or if you should have a different type of crown. After reviewing your options, Dr. Studer and Dr. Lemmon will prepare your tooth with the help of anesthetics. He will remove all decay and any weakened tooth tissue.

Optical Impression

A 3D image of the damaged tooth is taken—no more horrible-tasting impression material. The computer and CEREC software converts the digital image into a three-dimensional virtual model of the prepared tooth.

Milling Unit

The milling machine carves out the custom restoration. Based on the original color of your natural tooth, Drs. Studer and Lemmon select the correct colored ceramic block. In a few minutes, the milling device starts creating the restoration.

Placing the Restoration

After the restoration is made, it is ready to be tried on to ensure that you get proper fit and bite. When the restoration is perfectly adjusted to fit, it is polished and bonded into place. Therefore, no temporary repair and no return trip are necessary, saving you time and money in the long run.
